Would you like to get dental veneers<\/a>? Without a doubt, this treatment has the potential to transform your smile, boost your confidence, and provide results that last for many years. Still, it is understandable if you are nervous. Does it hurt to get veneers? Do they feel like real teeth? This blog post walks you through the sensations you may experience both during and after the treatment process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Preparing Your Teeth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of the treatment process, your dentist will remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth. You should be numbed during this process, so although you may notice some pressure, there should be no real pain. If you get uncomfortable, let your dental team know; they might administer more of the numbing agent or strive to slow down a bit to make you feel a bit better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are particularly nervous or sensitive, you might qualify for sedation. However, this is not necessary for most patients, as people generally find the process to be tolerable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bit of post-treatment sensitivity and soreness is normal, both in your gums and teeth. A mild diet and over-the-counter pain relievers can help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your Temporary Veneers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once your teeth are prepared, you will need to wear temporary veneers while a lab creates your permanent ones. These may feel strange in your mouth. You might also notice a temporary increase in saliva, as well as a slight lisp. These issues usually subside within days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your Permanent Veneers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After your permanent veneers are in place, you might again experience mild sensitivity and gum soreness. A slight lisp and an increasing in saliva production may occur as well. Again, these issues tend to be short-lived and quite tolerable. If you have any ongoing struggles, talk to your dentist. They might be able to slightly adjust your veneers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you adapt to your new veneers, they should feel very normal in your mouth! They are usually made of porcelain, which has a texture and appearance very similar to that of natural tooth enamel. You can expect to be able to eat all your favorite foods with ease. Maintaining veneers is also easy; basic oral hygiene, routine dental visits, and other basics steps are all that is necessary.  Within a short period of time, your veneers should feel as natural as your real teeth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
